My Brother, My Brother and Me Wiki

Not to be confused with The End of MBMBaM.

Contrary to how it may feel sometimes, every episode of MBMBaM that has ever begun has also ended somehow. The brothers' techniques for accomplishing this have changed over the years. After having quite a stable way of ending the show for 559 episodes, in the form of a Final Yahoo! from Yahoo! Answers, the brothers have gone through a number of replacements in the attempt to fill the Yahoo!-shaped hole in their hearts and to escape from the hour-long prison of each episode of MBMBaM.

Here are all the various show endings that have ever been used.

Final Yahoo! (eps. 1-559)[]

“I think it would be good for us, when we end each show, to have one question that we announce at the end of the show and then just, ruminate on until the start of the next week's show, when we've had a week to think about it.”
— Griffin, Episode 1

Throughout the Yahoo! era, the brothers closed the show with a Final Yahoo!, which many times they alleged they would return to the following episode, but virtually never did. For a full list of these, see: List of Final Yahoo!s.

Exceptions[]

In episodes 259 and 400, no Yahoo!s were read, and Episode 491 ended with traditional Candlenights carol "Margaritaville". Episode 420 mourned the death of Yahoo! with many Yahoo!s being read, but the show ended with a musical number by Travis.

Fake Final Yahoo! (eps. 560-597)[]

“I don't have a Final Yahoo. NO NO NO BUT THERE'S- Here's one. I just got it to load. I refreshed it enough times.”
— Griffin, Episode 560

Following the demise of Yahoo! Answers, the brothers close the show while also going through the five stages of grief (probably spending the most time in Denial); these episodes close with Griffin inventing a fake Final Yahoo! on the spot. At first these took the form of typical Yahoo! Answers submissions, but eventually turned into questions submitted and/or asked by celebrities or fictional characters, like Garfield or Papa John.

Exceptions[]

In Episode 564, Griffin closes the show out with a prayer... to Justin and Travis.

Ensuing Confusion (eps. 598-599)[]

“That's what we did this week, and we'll do something different next week, so you never know what you're gonna get. There's no familiarity.”
— Justin, Episode 598

In Episode 598, Griffin admits he had been making up Final Yahoo!s in previous episodes, and Justin gets a lot of mileage out of his soundboard. They use this as their closing bit.

In Episode 599, Griffin gives some inspirational closing thoughts, much as he would do many episodes later.

Celebrity Impressions (eps. 600-622)[]

“How about this: Impressions. And you guys can just say anyone. Give me anyone.”
— Griffin, Episode 600

Griffin closes the show with a celebrity impression, occasionally picked by him beforehand, but more often someone mentioned during the show or requested by one of his brothers (or the live audience).

List of all Celebrity Impressions[]

Impressions return during the Inspirational Quotes period in Episode 630 (a live show recorded during the earlier period) and Episode 640, which simply provided an opportunity too good to pass up.

Ensuing Confusion (ep. 623)[]

In Episode 623, the brothers discuss coming up with a new show closer, and end up simply doing a skit about Jamba Juice, over Justin's protests, without deciding on anything new.

Inspirational Quotes (eps. 624-640)[]

“Don't let anybody push you around. Don't let anybody push you around into doing bits that you don't wanna do anymore. Don't let anybody tell you you have to do bits that you don't wanna do anymore. 'Cause you don't fuckin' have to. You were here at the same time as everyone else. You were here at the same time as everyone else. It's not like you were last to call your seat in the car and so you have to do a bit at the end of the show for 12 fucking years. You don't have to do that anymore.”
— Griffin, Episode 627

Griffin ends the show in these episodes by coming up with an inspirational message for the listeners involving such uplifting topics as eating the Sun and cutting off your own feet. He first did this in Episode 599, but it became the default show ending beginning with Episode 624.

Exceptions[]

In Episode 629, Griffin tells us that that Montaigne's new album Making It contains secrets about clandestine government superhero programs when you play it backwards.

In Episode 633, Justin gives the inspirational quote.[Note 4] In Episode 635, Travis gives it.

Episodes 630 and 640 feature Celebrity Impressions.

Ensuing Confusion (eps. 641-646)[]

“I don't know what's holding this ship of Theseus that we call a podcast together anymore, Griffin!”
— Justin, Episode 641

In Episodes 641 and 642, the show just kind of ends, as the brothers Surf the Vibe straight out of the show.

Episodes 643 and 644 end with Travis providing fun facts about Wild West: C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa.

Episode 645 ends with a cry for help a call for submissions from fans with ideas on how to end the show.

Episode 646 also just kind of ends with the boys saying farewell, while also admitting that "this can't go on."

Jack Johnson Quotes (eps. 647-662)[]

“Griffin, if you talk about it, it's not an ending, do you understand?!”
— Justin, Episode 647

Jack Johnson is mentioned in connection with Twenty Sun and Sea the second that it's first proposed, in Episode 641, and the possibility of ending the show with a Jack Johnson quote is first suggested by Travis in the following episode, but it's first employed by the brothers in Episode 647.

Eventually, quotes about island life from surf rocker Jack Johnson begin to mix in with quotes about boxing from early 20th century boxer Jack Johnson.

Exceptions[]

As it was recorded several months prior, Episode 651 features an inspirational quote instead.

Sound Bath (eps. 663-present)[]

“What if every episode we ended with just a— No, listen to me. Don't shake your head no. I hated that energy, Travis. Open up a sound bath that we three work together on in simultaneous harmony.”
— Griffin, Episode 663

The brothers spend an extended period at the end of Episode 663 discussing how to end the show going forward. They ultimately decide on the idea of a cleansing sonic bath. At first the bath is just sound, but words and lyrics begin appearing during the sound baths by Episode 684 as the segment continues to evolve.

Exceptions[]

Yet again, as it was recorded previously, Episode 665 features a Jack Johnson quote instead.

Notes[]

  1. As performed by Justin during the Money Zone.
  2. As performed by Travis.
  3. As performed by Travis.
  4. Which, by his own admission, is "more of an observation."
