Video Games[]
- In Sea of Thieves, there is a skeleton next to a wall with the name "Griffin" etched into it. This is an homage to Griffin eating an unpeeled banana in the same way that the pirates in the game do.
- In Team Fortress 2, the community-made map "Laughter" contains a box of "Griffinvore Banana Co." bananas, another reference to Griffin's banana cronch video.
- In Fallout 76, there is a house with several references to Justin and Griffin's series of Fallout 4 videos in Monster Factory.[1]
- In A Hat in Time, there is a dialogue box that mentions "Two Brothers And Then Also A Third Additional Brother, Myself" and a sign that say "Pipi's Room," a reference to one of Griffin's videos on vine.
- In Guacamelee! 2, there is a dialogue reference to Shrimp! Heaven! Now!
- In Borderlands 3, there is a rifle named The Chalice, a reference to The Adventure Zone. There is also an area called the "Haunted Dahl Watch."
- In the 2023 remake of Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, there is a dialogue reference to Haunted Doll Watch.
Memes[]
An (incomplete) attempt at documenting some of the McElroy memes out there on the wild, wild web.
A delicious pre-MBMBaM meme of Griffin in a lightsaber fight. Griffin spoke about this meme in Episode 367: Shrimp! Heaven! Now!. Watch the original video here.
"I am very uncomfortable with the energy that we've created in the studio today." Spoken by Griffin in the second episode of the My Brother, My Brother, and Me (TV series) after a long awkward silence. This meme even reached NBC's twitter, which was ironic since they were responsible for not continuing with the series for a second season. The boys found out about this tweet while recording Episode 524, and discuss it in the episode.
"I also want a sword" comes from the MBMBaM TV show where Griffin is jealous of his brothers' sword find. The meme also became a pin in the merch store.
"It's trash!" comes from the MBMBaM TV show after Justin excitedly opens a door to find some treasure, but instead realises that it's all just junk. This moment was also made into a sticker in the merch store.
"Pipis Room" comes from one of Griffin's vines, where he is running around looking for "all the pepis," and becomes relieved when he finds the sign in the bathroom.
TikTok[]
Several McElroy sounds have gone viral or become memes on TikTok. Here are a few:
- "It's not Travis" - Sound taken from Episode 437: A Silent Chug. See TikToks made to this sound here.
A Silent Chug - MBMBaM Animated (by jesterpunk)
Griffin: Some of us, I'm not gonna name names, make pretty bad throat noises when they drink- Travis: [interrupting] Is it me? Griffin: No. Justin: Is it me? Griffin: [short pause] ...it's not Travis.
- God's Favorite - This is a sound taken from the introductions in Episode 666: It's Your Mouth, where Griffin starts singing "Awesome God," and finishes by declaring "It's me, God's favorite." Even Hank Green got on this trend with his own video. See TikToks made with this sound here.
Justin: Hello, everybody! And welcome to My Brother, My Brother and Me, an advice show for the modren era! Me? I'm your oldest brother, Justin McElroy! Travis: And I'm your middlest, most balanced brother, Travis McElroy. Griffin: [singing] Our god is an awesome god, he reigns from heaven above- Travis: [crosstalk] Not at all what I was expecting. Griffin: [cont.] with wisdom, power and stuff! Our god is an awesome god! It's me, Griffin McElroy, God's favorite.
- Modern Day Heroin / Why's Alex Crying? He Just Got Dunked On! - This sound comes from Sawbones, episode 260, and features Sydnee and Justin breaking down people's bullshit claims about wellness and health. It features Dr. Sydnee's signature dead-pan as she stuffs the guy they're talking about straight into a trashcan. See TikToks made with this sound here.
Sydnee: Anyway, he goes on to say that he tries to stay off of social media, because it's the modern day heroin. I would argue that heroin is the modern day heroin. Justin: [through laughter] Why's Alex crying? 'Cause he just got dunked on!
